Building a connection with others when you work flexibly and possibly remotely too is so important because, typically, you’ll have no primary team.
Connection creates resilience and, for many, increases energy. Many of you will know the work of Brené Brown; she is a social psychology researcher who studies topics like empathy, vulnerability and belonging in professional settings. She defines connection as ‘the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement and when they drive sustenance and strength from the relationship’ (brenebrown.com).
One of the things I really miss about not being on an executive team is the support and challenge of colleagues. Colleagues who understand. Colleagues who are prepared to listen. Connecting with others, either virtually or face to face, definitely has positive effects.
Our self-employed Talent who undertake short-term assignments across the NHS are so important and we want them to feel connected and so we are running Freelance Friday online at 9am each week where we can check in and have an hour to think, talk and support each other.
Hope to see you there.
